But I'm pretty suspicious of groups as a rule, so I'm not much to go by. On the one hand, I'm sure there are people who figure things out within such groups. On the other, there are people who need group affiliation, either for the affirmation or so they can look down on people who 'aren't doing it right'. People with these behaviors, however, are pretty easy to spot (and avoid). While I prefer to post all comments whether they agree or disagree with what I write, I do reject comments that consist of nothing more than: "You need to read such-and-such-book, because you don't really understand anything." It's possible to disagree and even debate without becoming rude (even on the internet). Further, why someone would feel okay dissing the practice of someone they don't know based on a few blog entries is something I have a hard time squaring with even the most rudimentary ideas in Zen. As I say in the post: "If we find ourselves in a challenging environment, we should look at it as an opportunity to see how disciplined we have become." So I accept such negativity and move on. BTW, I would be willing to bet that if you live near a metro area of any size that there are meditation groups like the one you describe. Check meet up.com other similar sites.
Pete Cholewinskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06638574750732801813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173639491415598922.post-21279808905443297482017-10-13T12:12:24.465-05:002017-10-13T12:12:24.465-05:00Hi,

Does anyone else feel as I do
that Buddhism has been totally corrupted with concepts
such as corporate and new age mindfulness. I would like to see a
Group organized whereby all they do is meet once a week for
an hour or two of silent meditation. Have tea, and go home. Absolutely
No discussion of Buddhism, Meditation , enlightenment etc. A good name for this group
might be the non-insight meditation society, or the paradoxical clown
society. Only requirement to join is you must have a good sense of humour.
M
jamisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03890632632931342338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173639491415598922.post-4184783194479486312017-10-12T20:23:22.916-05:002017-10-12T20:23:22.916-05:00I very much agree with the post. Another aspect of Zen practice I find interesting is the wearing of robes( just another attachment to identity) and the classifications by so called zen priests, and zen roshis into laymen and monk, or junior and senior. Better off practicing on your own. So many Western Zen Roshi's want to create a religion. Not many or none that I am aware of are real Zen masters. It's the case of the blind leading the blind. Very sad. But understandable in our modern world.jamisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03890632632931342338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173639491415598922.post-88264636558902555462016-01-06T13:44:20.390-06:002016-01-06T13:44:20.390-06:00Glad to hear you have enjoyed some of the posts! By seeing similarities between two schools of thought that are - on the surface - not bedfellows (strange or otherwise), it would seem I am confirming your theory about the similarities between isms.Pete Cholewinskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06638574750732801813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173639491415598922.post-7442618430333801792016-01-05T13:16:12.967-06:002016-01-05T13:16:12.967-06:00just read a couple of things you have posted - lot...just read a couple of things you have posted - lots of nice vibes, I particularly liked this one and the one about zen Buddhism and existentialism... that's how I stumbled across your page, I was thinking the same thing so had a little google to see if anyone else was - the more I read/think about it so many philosophical concepts seem at the core to be very similar ideas with different faces... I can't help but feel a lot reflect varying stages of enlightenment and simply embody the temperament of the author.. anyway, thanks for the read :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
