One of my friends posted on Facebook - and encouraged us all to post - a YouTube video for the song that was #1 on the charts the week we were born. A quick search revealed that, for me, the song was "Kind of a Drag" by the Buckinghams. However, in digging up this fact, I read that the song with the most radio play that week was a different song. It was the B-side to the Rolling Stones' latest single. The song was so popular, despite being a B-side, that in a week or two after my birth it took the #1 spot. The song was "Ruby Tuesday", and I decided this was the 'real' #1 song and posted it as my birthday song.
My mother was totally in love with Keith Richards back in the day (obviously before he turned into an incoherent, homeless pirate). She loves "Ruby Tuesday', and I recall her telling me once that she was playing and singing the song all the time before I was born. Sounds like the better choice for my birthday song.
Thank God I wasn't born several weeks sooner. Then my birthday song would have been "I'm a Believer" by the Monkees. That's a song-sign I do not want to be born under!
